Certain surgical procedures require a bowel prep. Your doctor will tell you if you should do a bowel prep. If you are still unsure if your surgery needs a bowel prep, you should call your doctor's office.
Bowel Prep
At your local drug store you can pick up an item called "Fleets Phospho-Soda."
The day before surgery you should eat a normal lunch.
After lunch, you should have only clear liquids. You will not eat dinner, but can have clear liquids instead. Examples of clear liquids are:
Chicken broth
Jello
Apple or Cranberry juices
Water
At 4:00pm the day before your surgery you will use 30ml of the Fleets Phospho-Soda. Depending on what size bottle you have, there will probably be some left over.
Taking the Fleets Phospho-Soda will cause you to have bowel movements and empty your bowel. You will probably want to be at home and close to the bathroom during this time.
You should have nothing else to eat or drink after midnight. If you do, your surgery may need to be rescheduled.
