What is Clomid?

  • Clomid (also called Clomiphene Citrate) is a medication that can be taken by women to stimulate the release of hormones that trigger ovulation (the release of an egg).

How do I take Clomid?

  1. If you do not have regular periods:  Your doctor may suggest a medication to stimulate bleeding. If this is suggested for you, take Progesterone tablets as instructed. Await the start of your menses and proceed with step #2 below. If no bleeding occurs within 3 weeks of taking the Progesterone, call the office and do not take Clomid.
If you have regular periods:  Await the start of your next  regular menses and proceed with step #2 below.
  2. Call our office on the first day of menstrual bleeding so that we may contact your pharmacy to authorize your Clomid prescription.
  3. The first day of menstrual bleeding is the first day of your cycle, or Cycle Day #1. Count to Cycle Day #5 and take your first Clomid tablet on that day. You will take Clomid once daily on days #5-9.
  4. Engage in intercourse every day (or every other day) beginning on Cycle Days #11-18.
  5. On Cycle Day #21 you will need to have a lab test performed to check your progesterone level. This will tell your doctor if you ovulated.
  6. If ovulation did not occur on this dose, your doctor may suggest increasing your Clomid dose with your next menses.
  7. Call each month with the start of your menses for your next Clomid prescription.
