Important Facts About Alcohol Use During Pregnancy

There is no amount of alcohol that is safe
for a woman to drink during pregnancy.
Any alcohol (beer, wine, whiskey, rum, vodka) that a
pregnant woman drinks goes into her baby's body.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can occur to your baby if you
drink alcohol during your pregnancy.
Babies who are exposed to alcohol during pregnancy do not grow well.
They can have a small brain and changes in the shape of their face.
They can also have heart and kidney problems.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) can cause your baby
to have mental retardation.
The average IQ of a child with FAS is much lower than a child
whose mother didn't drink during her pregnancy.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome can cause your child
to have learning and behavior problems.
Hyperactivity, aggressive behavior, trouble paying attention, and poor learning
ability can be a result of being exposed to alcohol in the womb.

A child may look normal with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome,
but their brains can be damaged.
The damage caused to a baby's brain by alcohol during pregnancy
can cause a child to have a short attention span and trouble concentrating.

Alcohol crosses over into your breast milk.
If you are breastfeeding your baby, any alcohol that you drink can stay in your
breast milk for several hours and can hurt the baby's brain growth.

A child cannot outgrow Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
It doesn't go away.

If you are pregnant, it is never too late to quit drinking alcohol.
